No new comic today

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

Had to post this under “news”, though it’s really “no news”. Sorry folks, life outside of prematurely disappointed got in the way a little this week, so no new comic until Friday. Take a second to enjoy some of my recommended comics in the meantime. I know Pinkerton, PVP, and Imagine This are new today. But make sure you come back! It gets kinda lonely around here…

Thanks!

To the visitors from Vancouver, WA and Santa Clara, CA (by way of webcomic “Imy”) for taking the time to peruse the entire contents of my archive this week. I can only assume you found what you like (or were looking very hard to find one to laugh at) and hopefully will keep coming back for more. Drop me a line at prematurely.disappointed@yahoo.com and say “hi!”

See?

First post since being dropped by the paper and I missed it. But not to worry, a new strip should be up tomorrow. I had it mostly ready to go for Monday but then realizing Monday was Groundhogs Day and in the past I made it a point that Spencer celebrated it, I contemplated interrupting the story for a special holiday strip. But with my two boys sick and my chronic neck pain becoming a total…pain in the neck and staying up late talking with my brother after the Superbowl, it just wasn’t going to happen. I did get in some work on a new header last night (Valentine’s related, better get that up quick!) so I haven’t been totally slacking. Tomorrow – same time, same channel, new content!

I know, I know…

But I’ve got a really good excuse. Or a good bunch of them. I have the next strip (I was gonna say “Monday’s” but obviously it won’t be) written and half illustrated but I also have 2 little boys with bad colds and I was an idiot to think I wouldn’t get it, especially with them coughing in my face for the last 4-5 days. When my metabolism kicked into overdrive last night so I couldn’t sleep and I woke up feeling there was a hedgehog in my throat, I realized it’s not going to be a good week. I will try to get at least 2 strips up this week, but I may end up spending much time watching movies on the couch. But the show will go on!

Incidentally, I did find a pile of old drawings and stuff and added 5 posts to my other site, toonsbyme.com. Check ‘em out if you feel the need.

Taking a Little Break

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

I realized Saturday night as I was sitting down for the next chapter that I really didn’t have the rest of this storyline plotted out. I know where it’s going, but I didn’t want to get muddled up in minor details on a strip-by-strip writing plan and lose people along the way (or make people forget there was a bigger story going on). So since I never felt right taking a week off when I was in the paper, now’s a good time to do it. Plus I’ve still got this neck problem I should get checked out, a cat that has a mysterious hurling problem, another syndicate submission package to put together, a Zuda project to finish writing and a few guest projects I’d like to get a start on. In the meantime, I’m thinking of running a couple greatest hits comics to fill the time. Maybe I’ll even color some older strips. Got any requests? Let me know. If anyone wants to submit any fan artwork, contact me at prematurely.disappointed@yahoo.com.

Thanks for keeping with me, and rest assured that “prematurely disappointed” is not going anywhere. Wait, no, it’s not “not going anywhere”, it’s just not going away.

Just a Little More…

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

New strips begin this Wednesday. While I haven’t gotten anything done in the week off that I wanted to, I did miss making more comics. Plus I got tired of the only comments being spammers and porn peddlers. The other stuff will happen. At least I got caught up in some much-needed sleep, which made my “real” job go better. I just have to re-prioritize and stick to a plan. I’m sure I’ll still miss an update from time to time, but that’s life. See you Wednesday!

What’s Up

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Well, it should be obvious to most that getting three strips done this last weekend didn’t work out. Thought I had it all figured out, but I was horrendously wrong. Didn’t even get one done. So I’ve decided that I will keep you faithful readers in the loop with near-daily updates if there’s no new comic. I don’t want anyone worrying that “prematurely disappointed” is going away. It’s really the only thing I want to do right now, but everything else in life is getting in the way. As of right now, I have the next 2 strips written and have sketched out a flashback story on the mysterious Melanie Frumpner. I know I’ll get one out this week, but I’m not going to say what day and not deliver again. But just to keep everyone in the loop and aware that this is on-going, I’m going to try to deliver something every day until I can iron out this scheduling issue. Thanks for sticking around and stay tooned!

How do you know?

Friday, March 13th, 2009

There’s a parable-like story a friend of mine told me a while ago. Each segment ended in “how do you know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing?” I really don’t recall most of it except that each time something “bad” happened, it ended up with better consequences, and the “good” things had bad consequences. When I find out, I’ll relay it to you, though at the end, you probably won’t care. The point is, something “bad” happened yesterday that hopefully will have good consequences.

You know all that whining I was doing about not having enough time to do anything, including new strips? Well, the powers that be relayed that to my bosses and they graciously cut back 60% of my hours. So I’ll have to figure out how to subsidize my mortgage payment, but I’ll finally have that time to do all that crap I couldn’t do before including more strips! Yay, me!

I’m keeping positive about it really. It’s hopefully only temporary, and unemployment should supplement enough to pay the bills. And I can complete some things that may lead to some bucks if all goes well. Plus I can spend more time with my 3 year old before he goes off to school. So how do you know if it’s a good thing for a bad thing? Time will tell. Keep me in your prayers, and come back for more regular posts (unless the economy rebound tomorrow and I’m back to work full time next week).

Sorry – come back tomorrow!

No new comic today, but there will DEFINITELY be one tomorrow. And it’s NOT about St. Patty’s Day or anything, just the next long-awaited chapter. So why not stop on back tomorrow. New comic, green beer, gillybean1’s birthday, what more do you want?

And a big “thank you shout out” to the readers from Scarborough, Queensland, Australia and Oakland, CA for stopping by last week and reading the entire archives. Drop me a note at prematurely dot disappointed at yahoo dot com and say hi!

Woo-hoo!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY gillybean1!

Here’s a card I designed a while ago but never used. Seems like the right time to break this puppy out. Have a good one gb! I’d suggest the green beer, but since you’re only 12 or whatever, and I don’t know if the green ale is customary in Australia, but have a good time anyway.
